The World Superbike legend Carl Fogarty has just won ‘I’m a Celebrity’...! I was more than a little surprised to discover he had put himself up for potential ridicule and humiliation on TV, but he obviously had his game plan and like the brilliant racer he was, he knew he could endure whatever was thrown at him in order to take the top step on the podium 15 years after his last Superbike victory. I have always loved Carl, he was the motorcycle champion that first inspired me to put paint on canvas, my dog is named ‘Foggy’ and Carl’s homologation ‘Foggy replica’ number 165 sits in my lounge. I rode the bike for two years and it is unquestionably the most thrilling bike I have ever owned. Retirement to the painting studio came about purely because it is a race thoroughbred and it didn’t take kindly to being herded amongst a 70,000 crowd as we all tried to leave the Motogp circuit at Le Mans at the same time. The temperature gauge went off the scale and the ECU began to melt, yet somehow I managed to nurse the bike home with a throttle that now had a mind of its own.
